During our 21 days of midnight prayers in church, I noticed something about myself. In the first few days, I tried to sleep around 10pm, so I could wake up by 11.30pm, and prepare for prayer. However, I discovered that waking up at that time was very difficult for me. I realised that this approach was not working.

So I made an adjustment. Instead of forcing myself to sleep, I used that time to stay awake—reading the Bible and engaging in other meaningful activities. That change helped me stay alert for the midnight prayers.

Interestingly, a church member later shared the same experience during church service. She said she also tried sleeping early to wake up later, but when she realised it wasn’t helping her, she stopped and chose to remain awake instead.

I made it a part of my sermon that day: whatever is not working for you or helping your spiritual growth, stop doing it.

And so, dear reader, if something is not producing the desired fruit, wisdom demands that you adjust and let it go. I pray that God’s grace and peace multiply to you in Jesus’ name.
