DO NOT OPPRESS THE POOR AND THE VULNERABLE
“Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Execute true justice, Show mercy and compassion Everyone to his brother. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, The alien or the poor. Let none of you plan evil in his heart Against his brother.’
Zechariah 7:9-10 NKJV
These instructions were repeated by Isaiah.
Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow.
Isaiah 1:17 NKJV
To oppress a person is to maltreat, ill-treat, take advantage of, impose unnecessary burdens on the person, etc.
Satan is the oppressor who goes about like a roaring lion, seeking whom to devour or put in bondage. And everyone who is an oppressor is being influenced by satan, not God.
In the Bible, Jesus pointed out the fact that true sons behave as their father did, and that the wicked are the spiritual children of the devil.
You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.
(John 8:44 NKJV)
Oppression is not of God and God hates it in whatever form. He cares for the oppressed and His desire is to deliver them from oppression which is why He sent His Son Jesus, to set the captives free.
He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
(I John 3:8 NKJV)
If you are a child of God, you should be concerned for the less privileged and the vulnerable. Do not take advantage of or maltreat strangers, househelps, living with you. Fear God.
And as a business leader, you should pay your workers promptly and fairly.
I pray this year brings everything that will make you smile in Jesus name.
