Mercy hit the Send button and her reply was sent to the girl. After that, she went on Facebook and accepted Dayo’s friend request.

When Dayo finished talking with Mercy, he set the phone aside. He was in his office and had been typing a letter before the call came in.

The office was located on the first floor of a shopping complex and had two adjoining rooms. One was the reception and the other was the office which Dayo shared with Femi whenever the latter came around. The walls and the floor were white. It also had a toilet. A middle-aged woman had been employed to clean the office and she came twice a week: Monday and Thursday.

Dayo had to be in a school at one for a meeting and he turned to the computer to continue with the letter. When he was through, he printed it out and signed. At twelve, he left the office and headed for the school.

Dayo was satisfied with his job. It was challenging and he liked challenges. Another thing he liked about his job was the fact that his good ideas were taken on board, and his efforts and hard work were easily recognised. He was making a real contribution to the business and it was growing. Femi was also open about the business.

He had told Femi when he came to the office last week Monday of the need to employ someone to assist him in the office. Femi had agreed but he would like them to employ a male who was a graduate as he didn’t want the complications that employing a female could bring. Dayo agreed with him.

Femi had also asked Dayo to do an outline of the job duties for the new position which Dayo had done and given to him.

Dayo reached the school on time. At about one, the owner of the school, a woman, and three of her staff came to meet him at the reception. Dayo stood, extended his hand and introduced himself. He was led to a room and the meeting started promptly.

Dayo brought out the letter. He also had with him a jotter and a pen as he always took notes at such meetings. As they talked, his eyes took in each person in the room. The meeting lasted an hour and it went well.

When he left, he drove to the workshop of the mechanic who was repairing one of the cabs of the company.

Dayo got home in the evening at about six-thirty. Only Ehi was at home as his mother had gone out to visit a neighbour.

He brought out rice and chicken from the refrigerator in the kitchen and warmed it in the microwave oven. When it was ready, he poured himself a drink of water, carried the plate of food and headed toward the living room. He placed the plate of food and cup of water on the table by the three-seater sofa, and sat down.

His laptop was beside him on the sofa. He turned it on. Soon, he was on Facebook. In the search space, he typed in Mercy me, and soon, she smiled at him from the profile picture on her page. He smiled back. She looked great in the picture.

He could see she had accepted his friend request. As he read through the postings on her page, he ate.
There was an article that someone sent to her two days ago.

In Britain when couples are going to bed, you hear ‘GOODNIGHT MY DEAR’.
In USA you hear ‘GOODNIGHT SWEETHEART, I LOVE YOU’.
In Australia you hear ‘SWEET DREAMS, DARLING’.
In Africa you hear ‘HAVE YOU LOCKED ALL THE DOORS AND THE WINDOWS?’
Don’t laugh alone please.

He laughed. Very funny. He thought of calling her to talk about it and glanced at his cell phone where it was in the corner of the room, being charged.

He changed his mind. She had told him in the morning that she was going to Abeokuta. She might still be on the way and if she was back at home, she would be tired, he reasoned. He would see her on Friday.

He scrolled further down and saw another article which had been sent to her by a friend.

How Oral Roberts proposed marriage to his wife, Evelyn: “My huge, happy, hilarious heart is throbbing tumultuously, tremendously, triumphantly with a lingering, lasting, long-lived love for you. As I gaze into your bewildering, beauteous, bounteous, beaming eyes, I am literally lonesomely lost in a dazzling, daring, delightful dream in which your fair, felicitous, fanciful face is ever present like a colossal, comprehensive constellation. Will you be my sweet, smiling, soulful, satisfied spouse?”
Evelyn’s response: “Listen here, if you are trying to propose to me, talk in the English language.”

He smiled. This is hilarious.
