DIVINE INSTRUCTIONS to live by, in Year 2020
( 26) Don’t despise older adults and elderly people.
God commands younger people to treat elders with respect.
You shall stand up before the grey head and honour the face of an old man, and you shall fear your God: I am the Lord. (Leviticus 19:32)
If you are seated in a bus and you see an elderly person standing, especially the aged, you should give up your seat for them.
Respect them because of their age, and involve them in what you’re doing as necessary.
Don’t think that they are useless, and don’t forget that you will become one, one day if Jesus tarries in His coming.
If your elder misbehaves, commits sins, or grieves your spirit, seek godly counsel and God’s face about it, so you can know how to handle the person without committing sin yourself.
In 1Peter 5:5-6, Peter linked respect for elders to godly humility by saying “Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’ Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time He may exalt you.”
Job 32:4 ESV
Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job because they were older than he.
