Doing Ministry God’s way
A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF THE CHURCH
To have a clear understanding of the CHURCH OF GOD, the importance of the Church, and how to relate to/ handle the Church, we must go into the Scriptures.
1)The Church is supposed to be the Church of God, that is, owned and controlled by the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Hebrews 3:6 ESV
But Christ is faithful over GOD’S HOUSE as a son. And we are His house if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.
Matthew 16:18 ESV
And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build MY CHURCH, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
2) The above Scripture makes another truth clear – if it is HIS CHURCH, He will build it. God desires to build and grow His church.
If the church is not being built up, that’s an indication that some things are not in place.
However, we should not be ignorant of the devises of satan. (2 Corinthians 2:11) The fact that a church is big or thriving does not mean it is of God or that God is the One building it.
How can we know the church that is truly being built by God?
By their fruits you shall know them. (Matthew 7:16)
And the Spirit of God will bear you witness in your spirit. (Romans 8:16)
3)The above Scriptures also reveal that the Church of God will be controlled and built by God’s Spirit. It will not be built by opinions of people – culture – nature – flesh.
God does not want all these other things to control or lead His church.
The Scriptures below also confirm that a true Church belongs to God because Jesus purchased it with His blood, and the Holy Spirit must be allowed to control the affairs of the Church.
Acts 20:28 ESV
Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.
Colossians 1:18 ESV
And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.
To be continued.
If you feel called into the ministry, you need to be aware of these things, submit to the Holy Spirit, and build according to God’s pattern.
That is what is pleasing to God.
