contd.

Bathsheba’s eyes briefly took in the furnishing of the room and the decoration of the bed before going to David who stood with his back to her.

He turned slowly and Bathsheba found herself face-to-face with the king over all of Israel.

David looked at the woman before him. Yes, she was the woman he saw bathing. She was even more beautiful than he had thought. His eyes went over her: from her long, glossy black hair which was wrapped, her beautiful oval face, eyes which were outlined in black, her fine pink lips, the jewelry she wore, to her manicured finger nails and slender figure in the beautiful lilac attire.

A strong desire for her coursed through him and he felt like touching her fair skin without much ado. Why should such a paragon of beauty belong to Uriah … Uriah the Hittite, of all people?

“My lord, the king.” Bathsheba said and bowed low with respect, in greeting.

He walked across the room to meet her.

“You wished to see me, my lord.” She added.

David liked her voice, which was low and soft. Yes, he hadn’t made a mistake by sending for her, he thought. Only the best was good enough for him as the king.

With his gaze still on her, he could see confusion and fear in her eyes before she lowered her gaze.

     “Bathsheba,” He called gently.

She looked up at him and he noticed her long dark eyelashes.

“Don’t worry. I will not harm you in any way … so be at ease.” He told her.

She lowered her gaze again. What did he want with her?

“I saw you when you were bathing.” He revealed.

Her eyes flew to his. He saw her? She didn’t know he was around! Was he not supposed to have gone to battle with her husband and the other soldiers? This was spring, when kings went to war!

“You are very beautiful … and I want you.” He declared in a voice heavy with desire.

He wants me? Why? What should I do? Her mouth opened in shock.

Knowing she had to say something, she began, “My lord,”

Putting his left hand around her waist, he used the right one to pull her close and his lips descended on hers. It was not a soft kiss but one of need and urgency!

He felt her stiffen with shock.

Raising his head slightly, he told her in almost a whisper, “Don’t say anything. I want you … and as the king, I must get what I want. Do you understand? Besides, no one will know about it.”

     “My lord,” She began again.
