This is a very unique story in the Bible. King Hezekiah was sick and near death. The Lord sent the greatest prophet of that time, Isaiah to him with a message confirming the worst – Hezekiah was going to die!
That in itself is no news. God had been issuing death sentences on different ungodly people in Scripture from time to time. However, in this particular case, something different happened.
Instead of Hezekiah accepting that death sentence like most people would, he decided to take action, he prayed!
The Bible says:
Then he turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the Lord, saying, 3 “Remember now, O Lord, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what was good in Your sight.” (2Kings 20:2-3)
Can you imagine it? This man prayed (effectual, fervent) and God changed the verdict!
From the Bible’s account, the prayer was answered fast. Isaiah, the prophet was still in the premises when God ordered him back to deliver the counter message to the previous one.
King Hezekiah obviously knew something about God that many Christians have been slow to learn.
