THE FOREVER KIND OF LOVE – a novel (33)
by : Pastor Taiwo Iredele Odubiyi

Cont’d

Dayo and Mercy returned to the business at hand.

Mercy realised that their standing side by side, talking and laughing was doing something funny to her senses, giving her ideas about marriage. She had to force herself to concentrate on what she was doing.

Dayo could see that the five dress shirts were of high quality but he liked two best. He eventually picked one of the two shirts.

“Why don’t you take the second one as well? You can pay for it at the end of the month.” She suggested, putting the emerald green shirt in a plastic bag.

“I don’t like buying things on credit. I buy what I can afford.” He said, collecting the bag from her.

“I don’t like doing it myself but I think there are times it might be necessary.”

“If it’s not a matter of life and death or very necessary, I’d rather wait until I can afford it.” He said, paying for the shirt.

She nodded. “You’re right.”

“Er, on second thought, let me take the second one as well.”

She smiled broadly as she handed him the shirt. The colour was cyber pink. “Thanks for your patronage.”

“Which bank do you use?”

She told him.

“I’ll pay the money into your account on Monday.”

“Thanks.” She said with a smile and the hope that she wouldn’t have to involve Femi should Dayo default. There were some Christians she would not trust with money or sell things to on credit.

“It’s nice doing business with you.” She added.

He entered his car and put it in reverse. She opened the gate and he backed into the street.

Upstairs, Stella was waiting for Mercy with questions.

“Was that the Dayo guy?”

Mercy nodded.

“Why didn’t he come upstairs?”

“He just wanted to see the shirts and leave.” Mercy explained.

“Did he pick any?”

“Two.” Mercy said. “He paid for one and promised to pay for the second one on Monday. I hope he does, I don’t want any problem. He seems to be a nice guy though.”

“Well, if he fails to pay the money, you know the person he’s working for.” Stella said.

“That’s why I released it to him.”

“Did he bring you home again?”

“Yes.”

“So, what were you discussing today?”

Mercy laughed. “Actually, he suggested we have dinner together on our birthday.”

“A dinner date?”

“I don’t know. I told him I would let him know what I decide.”

In bed later, Mercy thought about Dayo and the excitement she felt about him when they were standing together. She wondered if he felt anything.

Well, this wasn’t the first time she would seem to like or have feelings for a man but the feelings always left after some time especially if she prayed about it.

She began to pray, asking God to take control of the situation. If Dayo was the right man for her, God should bring them together but if he was not or if he would turn out to be like her father, turning her life upside down, God should take him out of her life.

She liked him though and she liked the fact that he was a child of God. He seemed to have a good spirit and she felt very free with him. But she knew the will of God was more important than her feelings. She also knew that if she was careful and listened to God, she would not make a mistake and what happened to her mother would not be repeated in her life. As her mother had told her several times before she died and as she had found to be true, God is faithful even when people are faithless.
