WHEN YOU NAG – 1

Nagging is another thing husbands don’t like. In counselling couples, I’ve had cases where the husband accuses the wife of nagging and the wife says she doesn’t do it; she simply tells him what she wants.
When does telling your husband what you want become nagging?
It is when you, in anger, tell him what you want: complain, talk in a criticising manner, and make him feel he’s wrong. At some point you sense that he’s getting upset but because you don’t care, you continue with your demand and keep pestering him.
When you nag or continue to pester your husband about something, there’s tendency for associated anger in your voice and your words could come out in a criticising way. No man likes this; he feels disturbed.
Some men might even see it as an attack on their person or that you are blaming them, and this is the last thing a man who has had a busy day wants.
Some men would react in anger, some would try to defend themselves, and some would tune their wives out while some others might go into the bedroom or out of the house to avoid unwanted reprisal actions. I need to point out here though, that neither of these reactions is right as two wrongs don’t make a right!
A certain house wife was always nagging and harassing her husband with deluge of requests anytime he returned from work. She was surprised at her husband’s seeming lack of understanding because she really had issues that needed to be heard. One day she decided to seek God’s face and to her amazement, God told her to always encourage her husband whenever he came home because he was having work-related challenges. Many of us are doing the right things in the wrong way. Seeking God’s face would give us revelations about issues we may have and show us the way out.
