Coming out of a cult
(From the novel – Life Goes On – by Pastor Taiwo Iredele Odubiyi

“So, what do you do?” Joseph asked Kate

“I work at Voice Media Nigeria.”

“Oh really? It’s beside Fiz Drink.”

“Yes. I’m a customer service representative and double as a receptionist.”

“That’s good.” He said, and added, “I’m coming to Fiz Drink on Friday to see the Purchasing Manager.”

“Well, I must say that you’ve changed, and I mean it as a compliment.”

He smiled. “I know. I owe it all to Jesus.”

“Er – I’ve been wondering, when did you become a Christian? How did it happen?” She asked with a smile.

He laughed and said, “Well, I’ll start from the beginning. I was in High School when I was initiated by some seniors into cultism. I didn’t have a full knowledge ofwhat it was. To me, it was fun. I was introduced to partying, alcohol, and stuff. I gradually changed into this other person, so much so that my family didn’t know what to do with me. By then, my parents and one of my siblings had become Christians and they started praying for me to bedelivered. When I was expelled from two Universities, they must have thought that God had not answered their prayers but God knew what He was doing.”

Hmm, Kate made a sound and nodded.

He continued. “One day, my very close friend got killed and that really bothered me. The next day, while wonderingand thinking about that, a man came to preach the gospel ofJesus to me. He said God sent him to tell me that He loved me, and as he talked, I felt something breaking in my heart. He said so many things and at the end, I agreed to accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour.”

“Wow!”

“He led me in the sinner’s prayer, and then asked God toreveal Himself to me. The next day, I wanted to take alcohol as usual but I found I couldn’t. Something had changed inside me. I felt a real peace and joy.”

As he talked, she saw joy on his face.

He went on. “For some days, I kept muttering to myself,I can’t believe this! That was how my new life in Christ began.”

“Wow, that’s a powerful testimony.” She said.

He smiled. “Shortly after, I gained admission into Livingston University.”

“Wow!” She exclaimed again. “I’m happy for you.”

“Thanks. Enough about me. Let’s talk about you. Have you given your life to Jesus?” He asked the question to confirm her salvation.

She smiled and nodded. “Yes, I have.”

“Tell me about it.”

When they reached her house, he stopped the car and looked at her.“My own story is not interesting like yours.”

They laughed.

“That’s not what matters. What matters is the change in our hearts and living for Jesus.”
(Culled from LIFE GOES ON)

If you’re in a cult, God wants you to come out, now. He will forgive your sins.

Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.”
“I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the Lord Almighty.”
II Corinthians 6:17‭-‬18 NKJV

God loves you.
