DIVINE INSTRUCTIONS to live by
(By: Pastor Taiwo Iredele Odubiyi)
(72) Don’t despise discipline, accept it.
Discipline is a way of enforcing godly submission or the obedience of an instruction, and the Bible has a lot to say about it.
Hebrews 12:11 NLT reveals that no discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.
To learn right living, to please God, and be used by Him, you must love discipline. All discipline is painful but has a beneficial result to those who have been trained by it. It brings an attitude that seeks conformity to God’s will and purpose.
It is stupid to hate correction.(Proverbs 12:1 NLT)
My child, don’t reject the Lord’s discipline, and don’t be upset when He corrects you.
Proverbs 3:11 NLT
The verse above shows two wrong attitudes that people may have toward discipline. Some people reject it and walk away, while some become very upset when disciplined.
But the truth is that the Lord corrects those He loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights.(Proverbs 3:12 NLT)
This truth is repeated in Hebrews 12 and Revelation 3.
And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as His children? He said, “My child, don’t make light of the Lord ’s discipline, and don’t give up when He corrects you. For the Lord disciplines those He loves, and He punishes each one He accepts as His child.”
Hebrews 12:5-6 NLT
I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.
Revelation 3:19 NLT
Note: God’s discipline is an expression of love, and always for our good, to remove things that can hinder us.
I pray this year brings everything that will make you smile in Jesus name.
