THE FOREVER KIND OF LOVE – a novel (26)

The next day, while on break and eating snacks in the office, Dayo took his phone and tapped on Facebook. He checked the status he posted last night and found that Mercy was one of the eleven people who liked it. There were some comments and he began to read them.
The third comment was from Mercy. She wrote:
Indeed, there’s not a friend like the lowly Jesus. No, not one.
One of his friends responded to Mercy’s comment.
I saw on a guy’s page: There’s not a friend like the lonely Jesus. (Wha-t?) How could Jesus be lonely? Does that even make sense? Oh please!
Dayo smiled. He too had seen someone write ‘lonely Jesus’ instead of ‘lowly Jesus’.
He read another friend’s response to that.
I wonder if they still do spelling in schools. Recently, a guy sent a text to me: I’m sorry I missed your call. I was in the birthroom. (Really? Have you delivered? How’s the baby?) Lol
Dayo chuckled. Birthroom? He read the next comment by a lady.
Someone who is a graduate texted me: My sister and her fiancé will be tying the nuts soon. (Nuts? What kind – peanut, cashew, or almond?! Seriously, do they still teach spellings in schools?)
Dayo read what another person wrote.
I read someone’s comment on her friend’s photo: Hey, it’s not the end of life. Chair up my friend! (No, this spelling mistake is unforgivable. Table up, my friend!)
Another person wrote:
Someone wrote this on his page: Above all else, gaurd your heart. (And spell-check!)
Dayo read another comment.
A lady wrote on her page: My God is upsome!!! (Lord, please forgive her for that.)
Dayo laughed and shook his head.
He read all the comments and was about to go to a friend’s page when he saw that Mercy had just shared a note on her page. He clicked on her name and went to her Facebook page. He found she had shared a note written by Pastor (Mrs.) Taiwo Odubiyi.
He began to read it.
Most of us know what the Bible says about sexual impurity and sex before marriage. We also know that God is against lust and seducing others, making them fall along with us. We know our bodies are temples that God dwells in, but do we know exactly how we are to treat and manage these temples? Do we know how we are to present these temples to the world?
Read what my daughter, Tanto wrote about it:
Ok ... I undoubtedly cannot respect girls that feel like, in order to get attention from dudes, they must expose body parts in their pix...too cheap mayne. If u cannot win ‘em wit yo personality or looks...that’s dead …
The above quote was a previous status of mine on Facebook. I felt compelled to write this because I was getting sick and tired of girls being too easy and making a bad name for those of us that are classy and have style.
There are a couple of ways females defile their bodies and also present themselves as ‘easy’ or as ‘sluts’. Now, I’m sure you know what I mean by easy, but do you really know the deep definition of that word? The dictionary defines the word ‘easy’ as “not requiring much labour or effort; not difficult; simple: an easy job.” Another dictionary definition of this word is “woman of easy virtue; a sexually available woman, esp a prostitute.” These two definitions are very important to keep in mind.
What these two definitions are saying is that a female who is easy is a female who has about the same virtues as a prostitute. None. She is easily conquered; no man ever has to work for her attention, all they have to do is “hit it and quit it” (have sex and leave). Everybody knows just how easily moved she can be and no male sees her as a challenge. She is easily dominated; an easy job; no man has to labour before she gives up her ‘goodies’.
Dayo took a deep breath and exclaimed, “Wow! I like this.”
He continued reading the lengthy article. When he got to a paragraph, he smiled and exclaimed again. “Wow!”
Cleavage showing? Unnecessary. Underwear revealing? Very unattractive. Now, you have to decide what your new look should be: Trashy or Classy.
ATTITUDE. The way you carry yourself matters a whole lot. You could dress like a ‘Sister Mary’ sort of person, but your eyes and body are saying ‘Easy Daisy’. Your body and your attitude have to be in sync.
You can either be easy or classy. Never in between. If your body is saying “No, I don’t want premarital sex”, then your words and the way you carry yourself should also say “No”.
Soon, Dayo got to the concluding part of the article.
Being a Christian doesn’t mean you don’t have fun. It just prevents you from very embarrassing situations. Stay faithful and fly!
He clicked Like on Mercy’s page, and then shared the note on his own page. Wow! This is a good one! A must read for every lady, he thought with a smile.
That Wednesday, when Mercy closed in the office, she went to her church for midweek service. Stella was also there. They left together at eight when the service ended and got home about forty minutes after.
At about nine-fifty, she received a text from Dayo.
Hello. How r u?
Smiling, she replied.
Fine, tanx. And u?
Great. Just wanted to say hello. I hope my text didn’t wake u up.
No. I was reading my Bible.
I like dat. Which book of the Bible were you reading?
She told him, and then added,
I try to read five chapters every day. I’m tryin to read d Bible thru.
She was surprised when her phone began to ring and his name appeared. She picked up almost immediately.
He told her he had read through the Bible twice.
“Wow!” Mercy was greatly impressed. A twenty seven year old dude who had read through the Bible twice? He was the kind of guy she hoped to find and marry; a sober man; and a man who says ‘Speak to me, Lord’.
The call lasted about fifteen minutes.
