(58) Stay away from bad friends
There are many Scriptures in the Bible about friends, friendship, and associations.
There are also Scriptures that warn us to stay away from bad friends or friends who can influence us negatively such as the following:
But actually, I have written to you not to associate with any so-called Christian brother if he is sexually immoral or greedy; or is devoted to anything that takes the place of God; or insults or slanders; or is a drunkard or a swindler–you must not so much as eat with such a person.
1 Corinthians 5:11
Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.”
1 Corinthians 15:33 AMP
In one of my novels SHADOWS FROM THE PAST, Mary became a campus prostitute through friends’ influence, and she in turn, influenced her younger sister who later died.
In the novel LOVE ON THE PULPIT, Bosun raped Teni, a family member when she was 8years old, and he, a teenager.
When they met some years later, Bosun, now a Christian, told her, “Before I apologise, I want you to know that I was a victim of bad company and poor upbringing … my friends were doing it and I got influenced.”
Proverbs 13:20
Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.
