DIVINE INSTRUCTIONS to live by, in Year 2020
(43 ) Cling to God.
but you shall cling to the Lord your God ….
Joshua 23:8 ESV
People tend to cling to different things in life, some of those things are right while some are wrong.
Clinging to and becoming one with your spouse is right, it’s biblical.
Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
Genesis 2:24
Clinging to money, alcohol, cigarette, drugs, material things, etc is wrong, and should be avoided by all means.
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.
I John 2:15-16 NKJV
And so, in clinging, be sure you’re clinging to the right things and the right people.
Cling to God and hold on to Him as you journey through life. Make sure you don’t fall away, and that nothing separates you from Him for He is our life.
In the Bible, King Solomon started well. He clung to God but along the line, he stopped clinging to Him. He turned away from God’s mercy, lost His grip on God and clung to foreign women.
But King Solomon loved many foreign women, as well as the daughter of Pharaoh: women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites— from the nations of whom the Lord had said to the children of Israel, “You shall not intermarry with them, nor they with you. Surely they will turn away your hearts after their gods.”
Solomon clung to these in love.(I Kings 11:1-2)
And what happened to Solomon? Oh simple. He stopped relying on God and began to do things that were evil in the sight of God.
So the Lord became angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned from the Lord God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice,
I Kings 11:9 NKJV
The life of Solomon is an example but also a warning to us. We should cling to God and keep on clinging.
