In the novel MY FIRST LOVE, Lisa told a lady, “Living in fear of your fiancé is not okay. That’s an unhealthy relationship. We read and hear about domestic violence almost every day. Let’s not wait until something very bad happens.” ……

…… “But he loves me.”

“Love?!” Lisa asked. “What’s your definition of love?” ……

…… Lisa went on. “Tofe, it seems you’ve lost sight of what true love is, and what the Bible says about love.”

Taking her phone, Lisa pressed some buttons and said, “Let me remind you of what love is. I’ll read 1Corinthians 13:4-7 from the New International Version of the Bible. ‘Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.’”

Lisa looked up at Tofe. “That is love. What you are experiencing in your relationship is not love. Love will protect you, trust you. It will be patient with you and kind to you. It does not get easily angry. A man who loves you will not hit you because he’s angry. He won’t treat you this way. What Jude is doing to you is called abuse. It’s also called gross disrespect. …… No, it’s wrong. This is not God’s plan for your marriage.”

Dear reader, abuse is not God’s plan for your relationship or marriage. If you’re experiencing it, you need to get godly counsel immediately.

Colossians 3:19 ESV
Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good,
2 Timothy 3:1‭-‬3 NIV

I pray this year brings everything that will make you smile in Jesus name.
